We all have a well. For some of us, it is bone dry due to past hurts and current responsibilities. There is nothing left to get us through our day. We keep doing the same thing day in and day out expecting different results because we don’t know a better route. Breaking cycles is like breaking bad habits. And when our well is dry, there is nothing to give anyone else.
God can fill our wells with the knowledge of His love and grace, help heal our past hurts and guide us through the most important job on this earth: parenthood.
As a dog returns to its vomit so a fool repeats his folly.Proverbs 26:11
How do we begin? How do we heal? How do we fill our wells? We can either point our fingers at our parents, scream, “This is your fault”, and return to our “vomit” or we can decide to change. When we turn a certain age the blame game is over. It will not work any longer. Society will not excuse the neglect of our children because our fathers were not there for us. Society will not excuse us for letting our children run the streets for lack of accountability when we ourselves were young. If there is an unhealthy pattern in our parenting lives, we must recognize it and deal with it.
Word to the Wise:
Once we hit adulthood, it becomes OUR responsibility to get the help we need and acknowledge the changes that should be made.
A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.Proverbs 22:3
